Whose money is it anyway?

I believe in making an offering of at least 10% and that God truly owns 100%. We have the tendency to say this with our lips but not live it in our walk. Psalm 24:1 says "The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it" I believe it was John Wesley who made the statement: "any Christian who takes for himself anything more than the plain necessities of life lives in an open, habitual denial of the Lord." I think most Christians, including myself, need to consider that what I see as a necessity may be considered as a surplus to God. We claim to be blessed by God but what are we doing with those blessings? Are we sharing them or are we hoarding them?
Not only that, but is the Church hoarding the funds it receives. Isn't the purpose of the Church to equip the saints to reach the lost? While writing this, please no that I am as guilty as anyone. If I'm pointing a finger, it's in the mirror. Have you ever wondered how many LOST people we are reaching as Christians? Are we meeting the lost where they are at or are we launching programs and the like which only seem to attract other believers who are excited by a new program? My family is guilty of this. We left a Church and worship at our new Church for many reasons including their love for kids and the women's program, to name a few. We are an increase in numbers but were not lost. When I give it seems more like I am giving for services rendered (for childcare, music, a sermon, fellowship, etc.) There is nothing wrong with these things but should that be what a tithe is used for. My point is that even those that do tithe are actually giving as a “fee for service” rather than as a biblical directive. So if you are not tithing, not only are you robbing from God but you are also not paying for services rendered AND you are stealing from the poor. This is a hard pill to swallow, but it is reality. And, those who do tithe are basically underwriting the others who are there who don't. Should your tithe go for a fellow believer to be there that has made a decision to not give. People never want to talk about money in Church but I think the reason is because it steps on so many toes. I could go on and on but I will stop here. Thanks for reading.

An Author, Tony Campolo, made a quote that has stuck with me. Here is what it says: "I have three things I'd like to say today. First, while you were sleeping last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or disease related to malnutrition. Second, most of you don't give a s**t. What's worse is that you're more upset with the fact that I said s**t than the fact that 30,000 kids died last night."

Below are some Bible Verses I've found relating to this topic:

James 4:3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

I John 3:17-18(NIV) If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? 18Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.

Matthew 25:31-46
The Sheep and the Goats
31"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'
41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'
44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'
45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'
46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
Proverbs 19:17
17 He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done.

Luke 13:23-30
23Someone asked him, "Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?" He said to them, 24"Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. 25Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, 'Sir, open the door for us.' "But he will answer, 'I don't know you or where you come from.' 26"Then you will say, 'We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.' 27"But he will reply, 'I don't know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!' 28"There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. 29People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God. 30Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last."
